Our Favourite Wedding Guest Outfit & Makeup Tips

After you’ve been invited to a loved one’s wedding, it’s time to think about your look for the big day! Besides your outfit, pay attention to the small details as well (such as your hair, makeup and accessories) to create a beautiful, appropriate outfit for any wedding!

Before choosing the outfit…

…keep in mind the details of the wedding! For a more casual, small wedding, try to find something romantic and formal, yet not too over the top. On the other hand, if it’s going to be a luxurious, big ceremony with a fancy after party, choose something elegant and unique that will match the overall vibe of the wedding. Always remember A few other rules as well: don’t wear white (unless it’s an all-white wedding party), black or any very vivid colour.

Keeping it Classy

If you are still debating whether to be more romantic or elegant, solve your problem instantly by adding a blazer to your look. Instead of the traditional black office blazers, try to find one that is a little softer, both in colour and material: a dusty pink satin or velvet blazer can be the perfect choice for a wedding.

Boho Maxi

Maxi dresses are perfect for beach weddings or more casual, smaller weddings. To make sure you don’t outdress the bride, choose a relaxed fit maxi dress in chiffon or satin with fun (but not too bright) colours and a floral or polka dot print. While structured maxi dresses can easily look a bit over the top, a more fun, informal long dress will instantly give you an effortless, elegant vibe.

Elegant Floral

This outfit mixes vintage and modern elements effortlessly, creating a beautiful outfit for a more formal wedding. Although this short sleeved, A-line midi dress is structured and not as youthful and fun as a maxi dress, the flare of the skirt and the white and yellow floral print make it appropriate and beautiful for any wedding.

Pretty Pastel

When in doubt, go pastel! Whether you are a fan of light yellow, mint, baby pink or light blue, pastels are just the perfect colour choices for any wedding. They are feminine, soft shades that are still fun and ‘happy’ shades, unlike burgundy, dark green or black. We especially love this outfit with the casual design of the shirt matched with the girly, floral tutu and a pair of pastel pumps.

Romantic Colours

Another amazing colour choice for a wedding is going for a pink-purple-blue look. If the shades are not too vivid and overwhelming, a colour trio like this will have a very romantic, feminine effect, especially if you mix it with a floral print. This dress makes the colours pop even more with the off shoulder design and the mesh overlay detail.

Casual Chic

For a very casual wedding, we recommend going with a girly two-piece look. Choose a pencil or A-line skirt with a crop top and coral accessories, and instead of the regular ‘wedding fabrics’ (such as chiffon, silk, satin and organza), go with the most casual materials.

Soft & Glowing Makeup

When it comes to your makeup, a versatile go-to look can be the romantic, blushed look. After applying and setting your foundation with a loose setting powder, apply a peach coloured blush to your cheeks and create a glowing effect with a golden blush topper and highlighter. Apply the same highlighter to the inner corners of your eyes and define your eyes with a brown or black liner and mascara.

Summer Berry Makeup

For summer and beach weddings, why not add a pop of colour to your makeup look? Beautiful berry colours (fuchsia, corally pink, light purple and mauve lipsticks and cream glosses) will look amazing with a soft pastel look or a more fun, colourful look. Keep the rest of your makeup simple with an ivory eye shadow and mascara.

Romantic Pink

If you are wearing a monochrome outfit and would like to spice it up a bit, experiment with the traditional pink makeup look. A rose blush, warm pink lipstick and mauve eye shadow with a dusty brown or dark liner will pull your look together and make your outfit look more wedding-appropriate.

A brighter, whiter smile will enhance any makeup look you choose to go for and make your smile pop in the photos, Pearly Whites have a range of options such as their super popular Professional Whitening kit to help you brighten your smile in time for the wedding.

Besides your outfit and makeup, it is also important to focus on other details, such as soft skin, painted nails and white teeth – and it’s never too early to start preparing.
